WFMW

This week's Works For Me Wednesdays has a theme: Toys Worth Buying. What works for us is homemade toys. My husband is pretty crafty with a wood lathe and paints! My husband kept his old fisher Price play set, do you remember those? He has a bunch of his old Fisher Price Little People too but has been making his own to fit in the set for a while. The kids love to play with it and use their imaginations and they really love the homemade people because they are so customizable. My husband has made one for each of the boys that looks just like them and wearing their favourite clothes. They like that he can make all their favourite characters too. This year whe will make us some Christmas decorations too. Check out some examples he has done on his blog. He is almost done making a handful that he will be putting up on Ebay, so stay tuned for that. If anyone has their old Fisher Price play sets, this is a great gift for your children! If you are handy with a lathe or chisel set, try to make some of your own, you can even let the kids paint them.

Check out more Works For Me Wednesdays over at Rocks in my Dryer for hundreds more Christmas toy ideas!

**Edited to add: Jim now has some up for auction on ebay, you can find them here.

Those little people are amazing! What a treasure. (I couldn't get the link to your husband's blog to work, though.)
Thanks for sharing your family heirlooms.

Those are great! He is very talented!

I also wrote about some handmade gifts I received for my baby shower - they are so beautiful and so heartfelt. :)

I found your site through Rocks In My Dryer and just wanted to let you know that your husband is so creative! My son and daughter love to play with little people and animals so I'm going to go check out your husbands ebay auctions.

No ebay auctions up yet but will be in a few days, I'll post a note when that happens!

Oh yes, please let me know when he has some available! I've bookmarked your site, I'll try to remember to come back, but feel free to shoot me a message anytime!

BTW, I just noticed that you are in Nova Scotia. My husband and I went to PEI for our honeymoon and absolutely LOVED it! In fact, we just watched some of the video footage we took last night for the first time in 8 years. It was way more relaxing than watching our election returns come in. LOL

About the dog, I've heard that the labradoodle (a mix between a labrador and a poodle) and the bischon are both hypo-allergenic. You may look into one of those. :)

Have a great day!

he might also want to consider selling on www.etsy.com It is similar to ebay, but the fees are MUCH lower, and it's geared specifically toward handmade items. The listings last 4 months rather than 1 week, and it's a sale format rather than an auction. I have really enjoyed selling there as opposed to ebay. :)

WOW! Those are SO COOL! I wish I were handy with wood. I'm ok with a sewing machine, but even making a bookshelf is a huge undertaking for us here.
